The Impact You'll Have

This is a key operational leadership role responsible for delivering parks and facility maintenance services across a diverse municipality.

You will:

• Lead parks and facility maintenance teams servicing multiple townships across the Northern Grampians
• Help maintain parks and spaces that host nationally recognised events such as the Stawell Gift
• Oversee the care of historic gardens, regional parks and community facilities
• Contribute to maintaining public spaces that support tourism, recreation and community wellbeing
• Work across landscapes ranging from historic town centres to the natural setting of Halls Gap

Job Description

About the Role

Northern Grampians Shire Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Coordinator Parks & Facility Maintenance to lead the delivery of parks, gardens and facility maintenance services across the municipality. 

Reporting to the Manager Operations, the role coordinates operational teams based in Stawell and St Arnaud, ensuring Council’s parks, gardens, public facilities and buildings are maintained safely, efficiently and to the high standards expected by the community.

In addition to parks and open spaces, the role oversees the day-to-day maintenance of Council buildings and facilities, including community halls, offices, recreational facilities and other public infrastructure. 

The position plays a key role in service planning, program delivery, budgeting and team leadership, while ensuring compliance with relevant safety, building and regulatory requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate parks, gardens and facility maintenance services across the municipality
• Manage and support operational teams located in Stawell and St Arnaud
• Oversee the day-to-day maintenance of Council buildings and facilities, including community halls, offices and recreational infrastructure
• Coordinate programmed maintenance and service delivery across parks, open spaces and Council facilities
• Ensure services are delivered in compliance with relevant safety, building and regulatory requirements
• Assist in developing annual work programs and operational budgets
• Monitor program expenditure and ensure services are delivered within budget
• Supervise minor contract works and coordinate resources for specific projects
• Maintain strong working relationships with community groups, contractors and internal teams
• Assist with Emergency Management and Fire Prevention activities where required

Desired Skills and Experience

 

About You

We are seeking a capable operational leader who brings:

• Relevant trade or tertiary qualifications, with strong experience in parks, open space or facility maintenance
• Demonstrated experience leading and motivating operational teams
• Strong organisational, planning and program management capability
• Knowledge of parks and facility maintenance operations and service delivery
• Highly developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• The ability to balance operational delivery with planning and service improvement

Previous local government experience is desirable but not essential.

Selection criteria  

  1. Qualifications and experience as listed above.
  2. Demonstrated ability to develop, guide and motivate a team and deliver a service program on time and within budget
  3. Knowledge and understanding of parks and facility maintenance services
  4. Highly developed interpersonal skills evidenced by the ability to maintain effective relationships with Council, management, employees and the community.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of parks and facility maintenance services and the effective and efficient delivery of these services. 

The successful applicant must hold:

• Current Victorian Driver’s Licence
• Working with Children Check
• National Police Check
• Level 2 First Aid & CPR (or ability to obtain)

The role may also participate in Council’s after-hours infrastructure availability roster and assist with Emergency Management duties when required.
